Alderwood completes the Cheltenham/Fairyhouse double
09/04/2012

Alderwood followed up his success in the Grade 3 County Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival with a fine front-running ride under Tony McCoy to give Britain's perennial champion jockey and his main patron JP McManus another win at Fairyhouse's big Easter meeting in the Grade 2 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle

McCoy bossed the race from the off on the eight-year-old son of Alderbrook, who had given Thomas Mullins a first Cheltenham Festival winner, and he was able to wind it up from the front in the second half of the race after the runners had travelled sedately in the early stages.

The winning trainer said: "Tony gave him a great ride but I still think his best run was at Cheltenham. Just looking at it, I think he's had a harder race today than he did at Cheltenham. He was blowing a lot afterwards so I'm not so sure about Punchestown."

Aldwerood was sold by Kilpatrick House to Tom Mullins for €19,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale 2008.
