2017 Sportsman's Catalogue Now Online

287 high class 2YO type yearlings make up this year’s Goffs Sportsman’s Sale on 28 September, the day immediately following the market leading Orby Sale. The catalogue for the sale, increasingly referred to as the ‘Irish Donny’ as it replicates the successful conformation led selection policy of its sister sale at Doncaster, is now online.

To underline the point several significant 2YO races have fallen to Sportsman’s graduates this season headed by BENGALI BOYS (pictured), who was the 6 length winner of the prestigious Weatherbys Super Sprint, leading a 1-2-3 for Goffs yearlings in the valuable 2YO contest. Bengali Boys was sold by The Castlebridge Consignment to Aidan O’Ryan and Richard Fahey for €11,000.

Further Sportsman’s success came when both legs of Britain’s first 2YO race, the Brocklesby Stakes were won by Sportsman’s buys. SANTRY took Division 1 before progressing to a close second in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, whilst REQUINTO DAWN was an impressive winner of Division 2 of the Brocklesby. Both horses cost just €24,000 each at last year’s sale.

Once again many of Ireland’s top consignors are represented in the Sportsman’s Sale with drafts offered from Abbeville Stud, Ballybin Stud, Ballyhane, Ballylinch Stud, Baroda & Colbinstown Stud, Camas Park Stud, Castletown Stud, Cregg Stud, Glenvale Stud, Grove Stud, Irish National Stud, Kilcarn Stud, Kildaragh Stud, Lodge Park Stud, Lynn Lodge Stud, Mountarmstrong Stud, Newlands House Stud, Oghill House Stud, Owenstown Stud, Rathasker Stud, Rathbarry Stud, Rossenarra Stud, Tally-Ho Stud, The Castlebridge Consignment, Tinnakill House and Yeomanstown Stud among others.

Commenting on the launch of the Sportsman’s catalogue, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“We have reverted to the sale’s most successful one day format this year and have handpicked a high quality bunch of commercial yearlings and real two year old types.  The sale takes place immediately following two days of the very best at Orby, resulting in an Irish yearling sales week that offers buyers at every level of the market the best chance to source their future winners.”
