The Class For Classic Success...

The top class Orby Sale catalogue features a handpicked selection of 400 of the best Irish bred yearlings to be offered on 3 & 4 October.

The quality of this year’s Orby is best demonstrated with the first lot being a half-sister to the 2011 Dewhurst Stakes (Gr 1) winner, Parish Hall. With countless Stakes winning siblings and dams to follow, which include 18 at Gr 1 level, this Orby catalogue certainly, has the class for Classic success.

A quality selection of yearlings by the world’s leading sire Galileo include a colt (57) out of Grade 1 winner Luas Line. Listed winner Tenth Star has a Galileo half-sister (254), who is from the family of French Guineas (Gr 1) winner East Of The Moon and Kingmambo. Lot 161 is out of Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1) winner, Saoire, who is already the dam of this season’s Listed winner Requisition. Galileo also has a half-brother (377) to the E P Taylor Stakes (Gr 1) winner Lahaleeb.

Camelot’s, sire, the late Montjeu, also has a fine selection of pedigrees. A half-brother (381) to the Blandford Stakes (Gr 2) winner Four Sins as well as a colt (26) out of Cherry Hinton Stakes (Gr 2) winner Jewel In The Sand. The Group 3 winner Race For The Stars, who is a half-sister to Lockinge Stakes (Gr 1) winner Hawk Wing, has a Montjeu filly (134). Montjeu also has colt out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Allegretto, which is a family that is proven with the Sadler’s Wells sire-line. Montjeu’s Derby winning son Authorized has some nice colts. Lot 180 is out of a full-sister to Compton Admiral, from the family of Nassau Stakes (Gr 1) winner The Fugue, and lot 353 is out of a Listed-placed own-sister to Ebadiyla.

Invincible Spirit, the sire of 14 European stakes winners in 2012, has 17 top-class lots.  These include a half-sister (97) to Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr 2) winner Banimpire and a three-parts sister to Recharge (Gr 3), who is out of a Tattersalls Gold Cup (Gr 1) winner Rebelline. The Green Desert/Nureyev cross produced Invincible Spirit’s Mayson (Gr 1) and lot 189 produces the cross who is half-sister to Group 3 winner San Sicgaria. Lawman also has a strong selection with 15 yearlings. These include half-sisters to Vintage Stakes (Gr 2) winner Chandlery (72)and stakes winner Queen Amira (45) as well as half-brother (233) to Coventry Stakes (Gr 3) winner CD Europe.

New Approach, who has made a strong start to his stud career this season with three first-crop stakes winners, has a number of eye-catching yearlings. These include full-sister (12) to the Goffs Vincent O’Brien Stakes (Gr 1) winner Dawn Approach.  Recent Listed winner Soon has a three-parts sister (328), who is out of the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Classic Park. New Approach also has a filly half-sister (230) to Light The Fire (L) and colt out of the full-sister to Observatory. The final lot of the sale (399) is a colt out of Group 3 winner Grecian Dancer. Teofilo also has large selection in the sale of which two are out dams of Group 1 winners. Lot 310 is a half-brother to Caradak, while lot 395 is a half-brother to Criterium International (Gr 1) winner Zafisio.

Derby winner High Chaparral is represented by Lot 341, a three-parts-sister to Lush Lushes. He also has a half-brother (128) to Grade 2 winner Girl Warrior.  The Green Desert sire-line has had another

strong year on the racetrack and this will be boosted in the sales ring with the addition of the first crop of Galileo’s half-brother, Sea The Stars. These include a filly (35) out of the Classic runner-up Karmifira and a colt (68) out the Group 3 winner Maoineach. Spirit Of Tara has produced five stakes horses, and has a filly (190). There are also fillies out of Uimhir A Haon (219), a half-sister to Group 1 winner Maid Causeway, and Treasure The Lady (212), a half-sister to High Chaparral.

A Pivotal colt out of Listed winner Sumora and a half-sister to Moyglare Stakes (Gr 1) winner Maybe (Galileo), from the family of Oaks (Gr 1) winner Dancing Rain is sure to attract plenty of attention. Pivotal’s son, Excellent Art, has a half-brother (63) to the Falmouth Sakes (Gr 1) winner Rajeem as well as colt (288) from the family of Sariska (Pivotal). Excellent Art also has a full-sister (145) to his Listed winner Hazel Lavery.

Cape Cross yearlings include two siblings to Group/Grade 1 winners. Lot 178 is a half-brother to the EP Taylor winner Folk Opera, while Tadkiyra has a half-sister (205) to the Phoenix Stakes (Gr 1) winner Damson. He also has lot 257, a close relative to Sea The Stars, as well as a half-brother (60) to Group 2 winner Ruwi. Oasis Dream has the filly out of Sadler’s Wells half-sister to Grade 2 winner Century City while Aqlaam, whose first crop are on offer, has a colt (101) out of Listed winner Nenuphar, the dam of two German Stakes winner.

There will be plenty of interest in the first European crop of Fastnet Rock, sire of 11 Australian Group winners during the 2011/12 season. These include a filly (17) out of a half-sister to Rock of Gibraltar. Fastnet Rock also has half-sisters to Group 3 winners Sense Of Purpose (201) and Hebridean (345).

Danehill Dancer has 11 in the Orby which includes a colt (25) out of a Fasliyev mare, from the family of Invincible Spirit, Nayarra and impressive two-year-old winner Mars. Danehill Dancer also has a colt (157) out of Cheveley Park third Royal Shyness. Mastercraftsman, the Group 1 winning miler also has his first crop on offer. These include a half-sister (29) to the dam of recent Irish 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1) winner Samitar as well as a half-sister (186) to recent dual Group 2 winning juvenile Grafelli. Another yearling is the colt out of the Listed-placed Blue Iris, the dam of Swiss Lake whose off-spring includes Swiss Diva (Gr 3), Swiss Dream (L) and Swiss Sprint (L).

Holy Roman Emperor has enjoyed a fruitful year with the likes of Homecoming Queen (Gr 1), and has seven well bred yearlings. The full-brothers to Jersey Stakes (Gr 3) winner Ishvana (184) and Woodcote Stakes (L) winner High Award (207) are sure to attract attention as will Zoffany’s (Dansili) three-parts-brother (218).

A Dubawi of note is Lot 299, a filly out of Group 3 winner Brazilian Bride, who is from the family of Dolphin Street and Henrythenavigator, who has a filly (108) out of a half-sister to Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1) winner Seazun.

Bushranger, whose first crop caught the eye at DBS has 11 in the sale which includes a colt (53) out of the Listed winner Lilum. Other Danehill sires well represented include Exceed And Excel, who has a colt (133) out of a half-sister to Group 3 winner Mr Kipling (Exceed And Excel), and Duke Of Marmalade who has a filly (131) out of a three-parts of Second Empire.

Azamour, who enjoyed Classic success with the ill-fated Valyra, has seven lots which includes a half-sister (264) to Army Of Angels (L) from the family of Serious Attitude (Gr 1) as well as a filly (344) out of the Listed winner Deauville Vision.  Azamour also has a half-brother (349) to Listed winner Sweepstake from the Hesmonds family of Claxon (Gr 2). 

Giant’s Causeway has a half-brother (396) to Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1) winner Bachelor Duke.  His son Footstepsinthesand has a filly (85) out of a half-sister to his flag bearer Chachamaidee (Gr 2), while Shamardal, has a filly (316) out of a half-sister to Coronation Stakes (Gr 1) winner Shake The Yoke. Dewhurst Stakes winner (Gr 1) Intense Focus has a host of attractive lots, the aforementioned Lot 1 and a filly out of the productive mare Magical Peace, the dam of Hoh Mike (Gr 3).

Speed influences Bahamian Bounty and Acclamation, who are enjoying good seasons, have a number of attractive pedigrees. Acclamation has lot 94, the first foal out of Musical Bar, a Listed-placed half-sister to Classic winners Finsceal Beo and Frozen Power. Bahamian Bounty’s colt (65) is a close relative to the Cheveley Park (Gr 1) Stakes winner Embassy (Cadeaux Genereux).

Dalakhani has an own-brother (321) to his Pretty Polly Stakes (Gr 1) winner Chinese White, and Listed winner Lily’s Angel also has a Dalakhani half-sister (105).

Other lots that are out of Group 1 winners include a colt by Tamayuz, who recently recorded his first graded winner, out of Moyglare winner Miss Beatrix (83). US turf horse, English Channel, a son of Smart Strike, has a filly out of the Italian Oaks winner Bright Generation. Another US sire, War Chant has an own-brother (126) to his National Stakes (Gr 1) winner Kingsfort and half-brother to Gr 1 winner Prince Arch. Lot 185 is also an interesting lot being a son of Birdstone, the sire of two Classic winners in the US in 2009, has a colt out of the Group 2 winner Songerie, from the family of Petoski.
