Goffs 1-2-3 in Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy for 2016 Classic Hopes

Goffs celebrated a spectacular Group 1 1-2-3 on Saturday with November Foal Sale graduate Marcel leading home fellow Goffs Foal and Yearling graduates Johannes Vermeer and Foundation in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

Marcel, a two-year-old son of Lawman, is now fancied as a leading 2016 Classic hope with his trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam commenting he will now “aim for a Guineas without a prep race. He's not short of speed and I’ve liked him from day one.” Chapple-Hyam also suggested the French Derby could be an ideal race for the colt next season where he is currently quoted at 16/1.

Goffs graduates have won a European Classic every year for the last 12 years bar one and Foundation, who ran an unlucky third in Saturday’s race, is another that has strong Classic credentials for 2016. Trained by John Gosden, the son of Zoffany remains the 2016 Epsom Derby favourite at 14/1 despite being beaten on Saturday with Gosden commenting after the race that “he’s a gorgeous horse and I'll look to run him in a trial in the spring now. We'll probably look at the Greenham and then aim him at some nice races."

Saturday’s runner up Johannes Vermeer also shortened in betting for the 2016 Epsom Derby with the Coolmore owned runner now quoted at 25/1.
