This support was richly rewarded by a sale of real strength and vibrancy that surpassed even the most optimistic expectations:
- 85% clearance rate
- 47% increase in average to over €90,000
- 38% increase in median
- 33% increase in turnover from a smaller catalogue
- 9 lots made higher than the top price the previous year
The new format of a smaller catalogue over two days ensured that the Orby lived up to buyer expectations as a premier sale of the best in Ireland. It is a winning formula and one we will repeat in 2013 when the sale takes place on Wednesday 2 & Thursday 3 October, allowing international buyers to take in the Orby en route to Long champ for Arc weekend.

Quality yearlings attract the major players as we saw at Orby 2012 where it was a great pleasure to welcome buyers from 22 countries. We also introduced initiatives that brought sale changing purchasers to Goffs and ensured their participation from start to finish. Our slogan “only at Orby” certainly applied in the case of over 50 high profile buyers that purchased only at Goffs, including Team Valor (USA), Moyglare Stud, Narvick International, Jim Hill (Canada), Big Red Farm (Japan), Norman Steel, Dermot Weld, etc.
