Impressive Returns At Strong Land Rover Sale

One of the strongest renewals of Goffs Land Rover Sale concluded today with figures for the two day sale largely on a par with the record breaking returns seen in 2014.

A clearance rate of 87% was achieved across the entire sale, 92% on the first day, while the number of horses making €50,000 or more increased from 44 last year to 55.

Gaynestown Stud provided the top price on Day 2 with a three year old Shantou gelding () that sold for €62,000 to Aidan O’Ryan who later accounted for the next highest priced lot of the day when securing a son of Milan from Limekiln Stud () for €55,000.

Reflecting on Goffs flagship National Hunt Sale, Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

"The 2014 Land Rover Sale set new standards for NH sales at Goffs with massive rises in every sector to build on the huge successes of the previous four years. So to consolidate those superb results is very pleasing especially when the sale is viewed in the context of the last four years during which the market has recovered from the much publicised global financial crisis. In that time the Land Rover Sale has grown in average by a staggering 131% which is nearly double that of its main competitor.

This week has been characterised by a significant contingent of British NH buyers competing with the home team including a very strong point-to-point fraternity, all of whom combined to return a red hot trade especially on our first day that recorded a very impressive 92% clearance. The middle to upper end was especially strong with more €50,000 plus lots than last year and some frenzied bidding duels for so many of the sought after lots.

Today continued the frenetic pace, albeit at a lower level and it is a source of some pride to the Goffs team that we received so many compliments on the standard of horse as well as the unique service provided to every visitor. In our endeavours we have been assisted by the new gang at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing who are really getting into their stride now and have worked alongside us to deliver yet more buyers especially from the UK.

Some tell me that Goffs didn’t appear to really cater to the NH market at one time but it is quite a while since anyone has expressed that view which is very much to the credit of our dedicated and excellent NH Agents who have worked with our vendors to deliver a catalogue of real depth and quality. Their work is reaping true dividends at sales time and then on the racecourse with the Land Rover again proving so successful at the likes of the Cheltenham Festival where it sold more Grade 1 winners than any other store sale.

Again we extend our thanks to every purchaser and wish them the very best of luck with their Land Rover horses and, of course, to our vendors without whom we are nothing".
