Ireland’s best at Goffs Orby Sale

A select group of some of the best bred Irish yearlings will line up for Goffs Orby Sale which takes place ahead of Arc weekend on Wednesday and Thursday 2-3 October 2013.

The finishing touches are being put to the catalogue which, despite an increased number of yearling nominations for 2013, remains firmly focused on quality over quantity.

The sale will be limited to just over 400 handpicked yearlings hoping to emulate the success of Orby graduates such as 2013 Classic winners Sky Lantern and Just The Judge, and Hong Kong horse of the year Military Attack.

The two day select format was introduced to great effect last year in response to buyer feedback and resulted in booming trade that revitalised Ireland’s premier yearling sale.  Every buyer of note was in attendance including several who purchased only at Orby, while Goffs welcomed a number of new international owners who came to the sale en route to Longchamp.

This year’s catalogue features another group of outstanding yearlings by a superb international sire profile, headed by double the number of progeny of the world’s leading sire Galileo compared to last year.

Ahead of next month’s catalogue publication, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“That Goffs Orby Sale attracts so many of the best yearlings in Ireland is beyond doubt, and if one race epitomised the quality we offer it was the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.  Five of the first six home were Goffs graduates led by the best 3yo filly in Europe Sky Lantern.

The Orby Sale is increasingly becoming the preferred option for more and more breeders and we have been overwhelmed by the positive response to our call for nominations which resulted in us inspecting more top class yearlings of a higher quality this year. However, rather than be tempted to flood our sale we have kept to just over 400 hand selected yearlings, albeit a small increase, and have worked with Irish breeders to compile a catalogue of quality and depth, the like of which will be hard to replicate over two days in any other location and something which our international buyers tell us they appreciate.”

The Goffs team together with Irish Thoroughbred Marketing have a busy few months ahead with yearling sale promotional visits throughout the UK and across Europe as well as Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, Russia, The Middle East (including Dubai, Kuwait and Qatar), USA, etc.

Goffs Orby Sale catalogues will be available online at  on Monday 12th August.
