Major increases across the board on February Sale Day 1

The two day Goffs February Sale opened with a strong day’s trade for weanlings that returned significant increases over last year’s corresponding session.    

Average was up by 29%, turnover by 17%, median rose by 33% while the clearance rate was a much improved 76% compared with 66% in 2013.  
 
The top price on Day 1 was also someway clear of last year’s first day, with Dooneen Stud’s Big Bad Bob own brother to Group 3 Dance Design Stakes winner Bible Belt and Listed winner Bob Le Beau (Lot 23) selling to Trickledown Stud for €90,000.  

Next highest price went for Galbertstown Stud’s Lilbourne Lad colt out of an own sister to the dual Group 2 placed Molomo (Lot 73).  He was knocked down to Jim Smith for €54,000.  Other highlights included Swordlestown Little's Arcano colt (Lot 42) who earlier fetched €52,000 selling to Abbeylands Farm, while Epona Bloodstock paid €48,000 for Swordlestown Stud's cracking Lope De Vega brother to two winners (Lot 93).

Goffs February Sale continues at 10am tomorrow, Thursday 13th.  Among the highlights of a quality selection of fillies, mares and older horses on offer are Night Visit (Lot 439), dam of Irish Derby winner Trading Leather, as well as What Style (Lot 461), a Group placed daughter of Teofilo.
