In today’s Orby Sale spotlight, bloodstock and pedigree consultant Clive Webb-Carter continues his look through the Orby catalogue, selecting some more highlights among the 472 lots to be offered next Tuesday and Wednesday at Goffs…

With Goffs boasting a remarkable 150 year record of producing Classic winners, this year’s Orby catalogue is full of further potential stars.  Among them is Roundhill Stud’s full-sister to Iffraaj’s Champion two-year-old and Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner Rizeena (Lot 258). Iffraaj, who has enjoyed a particularly good year, has a strong ten yearlings catalogued which also includes The Castlebridge Consignment’s colt out of a close relative to Taghrooda (Lot 37) and a half-sister to the recent Group 3 Atalanta Stakes winner Persuasive (Lot 434) from Owenstown Stud. Roundhill Stud also consigns a stunning Shamardal colt (Lot 398) out of a Listed winning daughter of H.H. The Aga Khan’s Champion filly Behera, while another by the same sire is a half-brother to the Group 2 Prix Hocquart winner Top Trip, offered by Kenilworth House Stud (Lot 319).  Fast Company’s Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Jet Setting, who sold for £1,300,000 at the Goffs London Sale, has an own-sister (Lot 153) to be offered by The Castlebridge Consignment.

Galileo’s beautifully bred draft of ten includes a Baroda & Colbinstown Studs-consigned colt out of dual Grade 1 winner Dynaforce (Lot 22), whose Frankel daughter is now a winner. Yeomanstown Stud’s Oasis Dream colt, (Lot 80) is an all Juddmonte affair, being out of a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Reefscape.

Other appealing lots by some of Europe’s leading speed influences include a Dark Angel half-sister to the Italian Champion two-year-old Singapore Lilly (Lot 300).  Fellow Italian Champion two year old Hearts Of Fire also has a half-brother in the sale with Herbertstown House’s Exceed And Excel colt (Lot 357), while Tally-Ho offers a Kodiac half-sister (Lot 48) to the Group 1 EP Taylor winner Lahaleeb.

This year also sees a particularly strong roster of first crop sires. Coolmore’s Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and Group 1 Juddmonte International winner Declaration of War has 22 in the Orby from his only European based crop. A highlight of these is a colt from one of Goffs’ most loyal consignors, Kilcarn Stud, who offer a half-brother (Lot 290) to both Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein winner Echo Of Light and Tocco d’Amore, who topped last year’s Orby Sale at €2,000,000. The 2,000 Guineas winner and dual Derby winner Camelot has a stellar collection of 21 Orby yearlings. These include the Hollyhill Stud consigned ¾-brother (Lot 138) to the Grade 1 Canadian International winner Joshua Tree. Camelot also has the Airlie Stud offered half-brother (Lot 435) to Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Chelsea Rose, as well as a colt sibling (Lot 16) to the recent Group 2 Prix Kergorlay winner Nearly Caught, who is part of the Irish National Stud draft. 2000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach is another strongly represented and has a Glenvale Stud-consigned colt (Lot 185) out the Group 3 Albany Stakes winner Nijoom Dubai, who is a half-sister to the Irish 1000 Guineas winner Samitar.
