Record top price at Goffs Punchestown Sale

A winners enclosure packed with major National Hunt buyers set the scene for a vibrant renewal of Goffs Punchestown Sale last night that resulted in a new record top price of €280,000 for the boutique Festival sale.

Top billing went to dual Bumper winner Charbel (Lot 10) who finished fourth in the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at Punchestown on Wednesday.  Sold by Sandra McCarthy, he had previously won a Listed Bumper at Limerick and was knocked down to Tom Hogan on behalf of Jill Lamb Bloodstock for €280,000.

David Pipe accounted for the second highest price of the sale when going to €175,000 for Eamon An Cnoic (Lot 6), a gelding by Westerner who was runner up on his only start and looks a very promising prospect.

Six lots made €100,000 or more at the sale, and among them was Goffs Land Rover Bumper runner up Policy Breach who sold to Aiden Murphy for €140,000.  Two of the six figure lots will join Gordon Elliott, the promising King’s Theatre gelding Kings Line (Lot 19) who sold for €135,000 and the impressive point-to-point winner Champagne Classic (Lot 12) bought for €100,000.

Among several purchases by Bobby O’Ryan was Six Gun Serenade (Lot 11), a winning son of Kalanisi who fetched €120,000.  Tom Malone also acquired three exciting prospects including the promising Beneficial gelding De Plotting Shed (Lot 4) for €75,000.

At the conclusion of the Punchestown Sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“We are more than happy with the superb trade for the Punchestown sale headed by a new record price of €280,000 and a 9% rise in average.  The clearance rate of 79% illustrates the depth of our buying bench and we are happy that the sale has reiterated its market leading status.

We would like to thank every vendor for supporting the sale with such quality horses and we look forward to next year’s renewal.”
