Single bid of €225,000 by De Burgh secures HIT Sales topper

The opening and only bid of €225,000 by Hubie De Burgh secured the sales topping winner Timikar from H.H. The Aga Khan Studs draft, capping another strong renewal of Goffs Horses In Training Sale which recorded increases in average and turnover on 2012, while the preceding Open Yearling section also recorded a 12% improvement in aggregate.

The three year old Dynaformer colt (), a recent winner at Roscommon, is out of a Group winning daughter of multiple Group 1 winner Timarida and was purchased by De Burgh on behalf of an Australian client.  This was followed soon after by another six figure winner from the same consignment  when Zand () was knocked down to Emerald Bloodstock for €100,000.  Trade for the Open Yearlings meanwhile was topped by a lovely son of Holy Roman Emperor () from Owenstown Stud who was purchased by Willie Browne for €30,000.

At the conclusion of the one day sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“2013 is proving to be some year for Goffs and the unconventional turned up again today as agent Hubie De Burgh, acting for an Australian client, secured the day’s top price with a single bid of €225,000 when buying HH The Aga Khan’s Timikar.

That represents the highest price at this sale since 2006 and demonstrates yet again that we will get the best prices when we have the horses in this category as with every other. Indeed, I confess it is a source of frustration that we are only able to attract a catalogue of just over 100 horses in training when so many Irish entries will cross the Irish Sea next week especially when we have returned such good prices as the top lot was backed up by Zand who realised €100,000.

The Open Yearling Sale is the lowest cost outlet for breeders in terms of entry fee and is provided as a service to the industry. A clearance rate of two thirds tells the story but we saw a lively trade for those the market deemed most commercial with buyers from Russia, the UK, Poland, Italy, The Middle East and the like doing battle with the Breeze –Up pinhookers so that nothing slipped through the net”.
