Siyouni Filly From The Wildenstein Stables Ltd Dispersal Tops November Foal Sale...

A Siyouni filly from The Wildenstein Stables Ltd Dispersal and consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment was the star of a strong final day at Goffs November Foal Sale when selling to Shadwell Estate for €775,000.  Named A Nous La Liberte, (Lot 1199 - pictured), this stunning filly is out of the Stakes placed Galileo mare Amerique who is a daughter of three time Group 1 winning Champion race mare Aquarelliste.

Classic winner Beauty Parlour will be offered at tomorrow’s breeding stock sale as Lot 1431 and her filly foal by Dansili (Lot 1201), half-sister to this year’s Orby €1.4 million sales topper, was another highlight of the Wildenstein draft this evening when selling to White Birch Farm for €450,000.  The same purchaser secured a second Wildenstein foal by Dansili in the colt out of Group 2 winner Pacific Rim (Lot 1187) who sold for €320,000.

The only Kingman foal in the catalogue was another to hit the €320,000 mark as Ballybin Stud’s half-brother to dual Group 2 winner Breton Rock (Lot 1155) was knocked down to Stephen Collins for Shadwell Estate, while also in great demand was Old Carhue Stud’s Sea The Stars half-brother to multiple Group 2 winner Here Comes When (Lot 1102), out of a Group winning dam, that was purchased by Rabbah Bloodstock for €240,000.

An Oasis Dream sister to both Group 3 winner and Group 1 Matron Stakes runner up Lily’s Angel and the Listed winner Zurigha from Neilstown Stud (Lot 1086) was another standout today when selling to Stauffenberg Bloodstock for €220,000.  A Dark Angel filly from Jockey Hall Stud (Lot 1125) meanwhile continued a strong sale for her sire when the half-sister to a Listed winner was bought by Mountarmstrong for €230,000, and earlier in the day another daughter of Dark Angel, Esker Lodge Stud’s sister to ten winners including five Stakes performers (Lot 1024), sold to Richard Knight Bloodstock for €190,000.

Reflecting on the five day November Foal Sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby commented:

“Polarised.

That is the word that has been used as much as any when describing the foal market this week. Indeed, the difference between the start and end of the sale has been palpable as has been the atmosphere depending on the perceived commerciality of each foal as they entered the sales ring. So we have enjoyed a vibrant trade for the most sought after with several multiple bidder duels and some significant prices at the top of the market headed, of course, by the final 17 lots that made up the foal section of the Wildenstein Stables Ltd Dispersal that was topped by the daughter of Siyouni at €775,000.

However just a couple of days ago it was a very different picture with a contracted market and a drop in figures, most notably the clearance rates. Indeed, the warning signs at the foal sales last autumn have proved prophetic and there should be no shying away from the fact that it was very tough for many breeders as the market spoke loud and clear.

The 2017 yearling market is the goal for the majority of buyers and they will have had this year’s sales firmly in their mind as they made their assessments. They will have recalled a mighty Orby Sale full of international buyers battling it out for the cream of the crop. Those foals that look likely to make that grade were keenly sought and we look forward to seeing many of them back here next year as they head to their new homes for the winter. However at some other yearling sales here and elsewhere it was tougher going and far more selective, so it is no surprise to see the most likely candidates for those sales proving less popular this week. Maybe that is always the case but it certainly appeared starker the further back in the week you look.

Of course the Goffs November Foal Sale has truly been one of the success stories of recent years with a simply storming trade over the last five years. Nothing can rise forever and there has quite clearly been a readjustment over the last five days, notwithstanding several special moments today.

Further reflection will no doubt take place over the winter but for now we immediately turn our attention to a very attractive selection of Breeding Stock over the next two days”.

The two day November Breeding Stock Sale, featuring The Wildenstein Stables Ltd Dispersal, will commence at 10am tomorrow, Friday 18 November.
