Orby Sale purchases Johnny Barnes and Bocca Baciata and November Foal Sale graduate Kodi Bear provided Goffs with a hat trick of Group race wins over the weekend.
The John Gosden trained Johnny Barnes (pictured right) landed the Group 3 Prix Quincey Barriere at Deauville yesterday in commanding style as he cruised from last to first under Frankie Dettori to win by three lengths. The three year old Acclamation colt, runner up in the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint Cloud last year, was sold at the 2013 Orby Sale by Knocktoran Stud to John Warren for €310,000.
At the Curragh meanwhile the Jessica Harrington trained Bocca Baciata was the impressive four length winner of the Group 3 Dance Design Stakes, ridden by Fran Berry. Winner of a Listed race earlier this season in which she beat subsequent Irish 1000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks winner Pleascach as well as Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Diamondsandrubies, the high class daughter of Big Bad Bob was sold at the 2013 Goffs Orby Sale by Kildaragh Stud to Flaxman Stables for €230,000.
Both Johnny Barnes and Bocca Baciata were bred by Citadel Stud.
On Saturday at Goodwood Goffs November Foal Sale graduate Kodi Bear gave a dominant display to land the Group 2 Celebration Mile for trainer Clive Cox who named the Group 1 QIPCO Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on British Champions Day as the next target for the Kodiac colt. Kodi Bear was sold at the 2012 November Foal Sale by Commane Stud to Ballyphilip Stud for €20,000.
Completing a successful weekend for Goffs was the Evanna McCutcheon trained eight year old Maarek who came with a late run to take the Listed Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes under Jamie Spencer, and should next appear in the Group 2 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. Maarek was sold at the Goffs HIT Sale 2011 by Kilconnel Stables to EP Harty for €95,000.
