Top quality field for Group 1 Goffs National Stakes

Orby graduate Dragon Pulse is among a strong line-up of nine juveniles declared for the Group 1 Goffs National Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Jessica Harrington trained son of Kyllachy was supplemented for the race following his recent victory in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes over the same course and distance.

Coventry Stakes winner and Group 1 Phoenix Stakes runner up Power heads up four runners from Ballydoyle, with stablemates David Livingston, Furner’s Green and Vault also declared.  Aidan O’Brien has won the National Stakes on seven previous occasions and it was Goffs Orby graduate Desert King in the 1996 running that provided the trainer with his first Group 1 success. 

Jeremy Noseda sends his Group 3 Solario Stakes winner Talwar to lineup for the €200,000 event having also been supplemented at Monday’s final forfeit stage, while the Michael Mulvany trainedTough As Nails, placed third in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes last time out, is also declared as are Jim Bolger’s Stakes placed Whip Rules and the Listed winner Strait Of Zanzibar trained by Ken Condon.

Goffs National Stakes forms part of a “Super Saturday” programme at the Curragh this weekend that also features the Group 1 Irish Field St Leger.  Goffs has a long association with the Curragh through the sponsorship of the Millions races, the Irish 1000 Guineas and the Flying Five Stakes.
