Turnover, Average & Median Rise At November Breeding Stock Sale

A superb Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale returned major increases across the board as turnover rose by 26%, average by 20% and median was up 11% over the 2014 sale.   The strength of the two day breeding stock sale can also be measured by the almost doubling of the number of mares making €100,000 or more compared with last year.

The Group 3 winner Malagenia () in foal to Worthadd from Castletown Stud Agent topped Day 2 when selling to Brian Grassick Bloodstock for €70,000.  The Aga Khan Stud draft topped the entire sale with the €460,000 sale of Ebeyina () yesterday and also provided one of the highlights of the second session with the winning three year old filly Shahzeena () bought by Pat McCarthy for €46,000.  Shortly after the Sadler’s Wells mare Fountain Of Honour () from Landscape Stud in foal to Zoffany was knocked down to William Johnstone Racing for €45,000.

Reflecting on a successful week at the November Sale, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“The best sale I have ever had”. A bold statement but so said a leading and experienced breeder following the sale of his draft of mares yesterday. That sentiment summed up a truly stunning day of Breeding Stock and today, although at a lower level, continued in the same kind of vein allowing us to record significant growth in turnover, average and median over the two days.

We have welcomed a really international audience of buyers following a number of targeted visits across the globe by the Goffs team and our colleagues at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. They have flocked to Goffs to take advantage of our unique service and diverse catalogue which, although perhaps lacking a headline grabbing star like Chicquita or Banimpire, represented the sort of sound commercial investments that have proved so lucrative for our buyers over the years. It seems that the 2015 offering appealed more than ever as our increases clearly illustrate.

So we have enjoyed a superb week of trade for both Foals and Breeding Stock headed by the record breaking €1.1 million colt foal and frenzied trade throughout yesterday. As ever we salute every vendor and each purchaser. The former group are continuing to back the Goffs service and we welcome the latter, new and established, in increasing numbers.

Another quote to finish from an overseas buyer who had not been to Goffs for many years who said: “This place is great; the welcome, the facilities and the service. I just had to buy as I loved what I saw and I’m not going to leave it so long next time”. That kind of feedback will continue to drive us on to better and better results".
