€155,000 Top Lot Shatters NH Foal Record At Goffs December Sale

The first foal out of Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner Shattered Love today shattered the record for the highest priced foal ever sold at Goffs December National Hunt Sale.  Breeders Justin and Jackie Owens of Mount Armstrong Kildare purchased Shattered Love in foal to Walk In The Park at this sale last year for €260,000 and the resulting foal (Lot 316 - pictured) lit up Day 2 of the December National Hunt Sale when selling to Gerry Aherne for €155,000.  It was also the highest price for a National Hunt foal anywhere this year.

Gerry Aherne had earlier secured another outstanding foal by sire of the moment Walk In The Park, this time in the form of Coolmara Stables’ son of Royale Joana Has, a Grade 3 chase winner in France, that was knocked down at €82,000 (Lot 280), while another of the day’s highlights came courtesy of The Beeches Stud who offered an impressive colt by their resident sire Crystal Ocean (Lot 224) that was purchased by Ian Ferguson for €75,000.

Other stars of Day 2 included a trio of foals that sold for €52,000 apiece - a Harzand colt out of a winning own-sister to Grade 2 performer Tully East (Lot 302) consigned by Dean Sinnott and sold to Norman Williamson of Oak Tree Farm; a Crystal Ocean colt (Lot 350) consigned by Rathmore Stud on behalf of Cyril Crowe and Mags Melody that sold to Brooklodge Farm; and a Walk In The Park filly out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1 winning Frodon (Lot 381) that sold from Cleaboy Stud & Coppice Farm to Abbeylands Farm.
