The one day Goffs Sportsman’s Sale opened in style this morning as the first lot into the ring, a colt by Bungle Inthejungle from Rathasker Stud (Lot 419 - pictured) whose half-brother was a winner since the catalogue was printed, sold for a sale-topping €90,000 to Roger Marley of Church Farm.

A solid day of trade followed, with both the clearance rate for the day of 85% and the number of lots making €50,000 and upwards matching that of 2017, aided by a broad range of buyers from right across Europe.

Kevin Ross Bloodstock accounted for the second highest priced yearling at the Sportsman’s, going to €70,000 for Tally Ho Stud’s Society Rock colt (Lot 487) whose only sibling was a recent winner first time out at 2.  Bungle Inthejungle was in demand again with a filly from Newlands House Stud, (Lot 557) selling to Joe Foley for €65,000, while two further highlights included a daughter of Acclamation out of a sister to a Group 1 winner from Glacken View (Lot 528) bought by Aidan O’Ryan for €60,000 and a New Approach filly from Lumville Farm (Lot 667) that sold to JC Bloodstock, also for €60,000.

At the conclusion of the Sportsman’s Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby commented:

“After the historic events of the last two days our Sportsman’s Sale was always going to struggle to compete for headlines. However we have enjoyed a trade that, relatively speaking, has been solid if unspectacular.

Given the backdrop leading in to the week we have been satisfied with a day that has returned an acceptable clearance rate of 85% which clearly demonstrates a healthy interest from a large group of buyers from home and abroad. Indeed we have been delighted to welcome some significant buyers from across Europe and the Eastern Block following more hard work by the Goffs international network of agents alongside our friends at Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. Equally gratifying has been the fresh faces from the UK training ranks that have flown in specifically for today.

As ever we are supremely grateful for the support of our vendors and wish every buyer success on the racecourse”.
