Cheltenham Festival Grade 1 Winner Shattered Love Tops Record December NH Sale

Shattered Love (Lot 723), winner of the Grade 1 JLT Novices’ Chase at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival, headlined a vibrant third and final day at Goffs December National Hunt Sale.  One of three six-figure mares among another outstanding December draft from Gigginstown House Stud, the ten-year-old daughter of Yeats who in foal to Walk In The Park was sold to MA Bloodstock for €260,000.

Three lots later came Gigginstown’s Grade 1 placed Tintangle (Lot 726), a half-sister to the multiple Graded winner Tombstone and in foal to Crystal Ocean, who sold for €190,000 to Coolmara Stables, while Newtown Anner and Ballylinch went to €115,000 to secure Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed Surin (Lot 725), a daughter of Authorized in foal to Poet’s Word from the same draft.

The fervent demand for foals seen over the past two days continued throughout today’s final session, with trade topped by Baroda Stud’s Walk In The Park colt (Lot 605) from the family of Madison Du Berlais that sold to Norman Williamson’s Oak Tree Farm for €82,000.

Also among the foal highlights today were Conna Stud’s Crystal Ocean colt (Lot 657) out of a Getaway half-sister to Grade 1 winner Minella Class that sold for €75,000 to Oaks Farm Stables, and another son of Crystal Ocean (Lot 570), out of dual Listed Hurdle winner and Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle runner up Aurore D'Estruval that was sold by The Beeches Stud to Jamestown House Stud for €70,000.

Following the December NH Sale, Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said:

“It’s always good to break a record but there is special satisfaction in smashing the six-figure glass ceiling in relation to a NH Foal at Goffs. Indeed a top price of €100,000 sits very high on the scoreboard for the category and was another clear demonstration that Goffs December is now competing for market leading status.

National Hunt Sales at Goffs have made a meteoric rise in recent years and we are so grateful to all those breeders who now choose Goffs as their first choice in increasing numbers. That so many of the best now come to Kildare Paddocks in June and December is testament to our NH team and expanding to a three-day sale this week was simply down to vendor demand which is quite something when one considers this was a one day, 200 lot sale just 10 years ago.

As ever we are indebted to every vendor for the trust they place in us with each entry and simply delighted to have returned such a vibrant trade to vindicate that faith in the Goffs service. We wish every buyer the very best of luck and look forward to reoffering many of this week’s stand outs back at the Goffs Land Rover and Doncaster Spring Sales in 2024.

It was also very pleasing to round off the sale with another strong selection of classy broodmares and we are especially appreciative of the ongoing support of Michael and Eddie O’Leary who sold another mighty draft of mares under their Gigginstown banner.

For now we wish all Goffs clients a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year when we hope that the dreaded pandemic will be fully defeated so that we can all focus on the many positives of the this wonderful bloodstock world”.
