Exciting Wesley Ward 2YO Twilight Gleaming Among Orby Weekend Winners

A super season so far for Orby Sale graduates continued over the weekend, with a number of notable wins in the US as well as more Group success closer to home.

The Wesley Ward-trained Twilight Gleaming, bought by Ben McElroy at last year’s Orby Sale, destroyed her rivals yesterday at Belmont Park with a brilliant 7 ½ length victory for owners Stonestreet Farm.  The daughter of National Defense was sold by her breeders Pier House Stud at Goffs Orby Sale and looks a strong candidate for Royal Ascot next month.

Twilight Gleaming is the second winning juvenile in recent weeks for the Wesley Ward and Stonestreet team that was bought by McElroy at last year's Orby, with Napa Spirit impressing at Keeneland on 23 April.  The son of Invincible Spirit was sold at the Orby Sale 2020 by the Irish National Stud.

Another classy stateside winner from the Orby Sale yesterday was Shore Break who put in a very smart performance to win her maiden at Golden Gate Fields for trainer Neil Drysdale and owners Lynne Hudson and Edward J Hudson Jr.  By Footstepsinthesand, Shore Break was bred and sold at the Orby Sale by Churchtown House Stud to Shawn Dugan.

The action at Naas on Saturday meanwhile saw Orby Sale graduate Insinuendo take home the feature Group 3 Blue Wind Stakes for trainer Willie McCreery who purchased the filly from Mountarmstrong Stud at the 2018 Goffs Orby Sale.
