Goffs' Remaining 2020 Sales On Schedule For Kildare Paddocks

Goffs Autumn Sale, November Sale and December National Hunt Sale will go ahead as scheduled at Kildare Paddocks, and Goffs wish to reassure clients that they will be held in full compliance with Government guidelines in place at the time to ensure they take place safely and successfully.

The remaining 2020 sale dates are:

  • Autumn Yearling & Horses In Training Sale  4-5 November  Catalogues out now
  • November Foal & Breeding Stock Sale  16-19 November  Entries closed
  • December National Hunt Sale  9-10 December  Entries close 14 October

The current nationwide Level 3 Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland are due to expire on 28 October, however should the current restrictions remain beyond the end of October, the protocols in place during Land Rover will allow Goffs to conduct sales in a safe and compliant manner.  The recent Land Rover Sale exceeded all expectations despite taking place against the backdrop of a local lockdown in Kildare, and Goffs will mirror the safety and compliance protocols implemented at the Land Rover to ensure the best possible environment to conduct the business of buying and selling horses.

Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby commented:

“Goffs’ purpose is to provide the best marketplace for Irish breeders, in Ireland, and I wish to reassure vendors and buyers that our commitment to creating the best possible conditions for successful sales remains as strong as ever whilst we prioritise the safety and well-being of all clients and staff.

Our remaining three sales this year traditionally attract a strong mix of Irish and overseas buyers to Kildare Paddocks.  The Autumn Sale will be the only dedicated yearling sale in Ireland this year and, given the enormous success Irish trainers have enjoyed with Autumn graduates this year, we expect strong domestic demand coupled with participation by a range of buyers across Europe – be that in person, via Goffs Online or through agents on the ground.

The market leading November Foal Sale is dominated by Irish buyers.  Indeed, Irish pinhookers top the foal ranks across Europe.  So the biggest amount of buyers are here, but that will not deflect us from working to ensure the participation of a number of valued foal purchasers from the UK and further afield and we will also work to ensure the involvement of several key international end users for whom our world class catalogue should hold huge appeal.  It also widely considered that breeding stock is the category most suited to purchasing online if necessary, so our online bidding platform will be used to full effect as a support to everything we are doing on the ground.

Goffs December National Hunt Sale is fast becoming the first choice National Hunt foal sale with many Irish vendors, and has also seen some record breeding stock prices in recent years.  Dominated by Irish buyers, alongside a number of key UK purchasers, we are very pleased with how the 2020 catalogue is coming together and look forward to announcing the details in the coming weeks.

I wish to also take this opportunity to thank every Goffs vendor and buyer for their continued support as, together with the entire bloodstock industry, we react and adapt to the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.  Rest assured that the Goffs team is doing everything in our power to act in the best interests of our valued clients and maximise the opportunities for your horses so that we repay the trust every vendor places in us with each entry”.

Autumn Yearling & Horses In Training, 4-5 November 2020:

Goffs Autumn Yearling & Horses In Training Sale will take place from 4 – 5 November and the yearling catalogue is now available online while the Horses In Training will be available from tomorrow.

The value on offer at the Autumn Yearling Sale was evident throughout 2020 with graduates such as the Ken Condon trained Group 2 winner Laws Of Indices who was bought in 2019 for just €8,000, as well as Elysium bought by Noel Meade for €15,000 before going on to Group success, and the Jessica Harrington trained 2YO Stakes winner Zaffy’s Pride, a €13,000 purchase at the Autumn Yearling Sale last year.  View catalogue.

November Foal & Breeding Stock Sale, 15-22 November 2020:

Europe’s market-leading foal sale takes place as scheduled at Kildare Paddocks in conjunction with the November Breeding Stock Sale.  Having been the world’s highest priced foal in 2015 (pictured), Ghaiyyath went on to become the world’s highest rated racehorse in 2020 and he headlines an impressive list of Group 1 graduates from the past season.  Catalogue online 13 October.

The November Breeding Stock will feature some world class drafts from many leading breeders, and has also enjoyed a strong season as offspring of November mares include the likes of Lucky Vega, Alcohol Free, Isabella Giles and most recently the dam of Tiger Tanaka, winner of the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp last weekend.  Catalogue online 16 October.

December National Hunt Sale, 9-10 December 2020:

The two-day Goffs December National Hunt Sale, featuring foals, yearlings, older horses and breeding stock, has been one of the big National Hunt success stories at Goffs in recent years with foal prices of up to €90,000 and record prices for breeding stock of up to €230,000.  Entries close 14 October, click here to enter online.
