Group 1 Siblings On Offer At Orby

The catalogue for the upcoming Goffs Orby Sale offers purchasers a truly Classic collection packed full of yearlings from the finest families with pedigrees that are proven at the highest level of the sport.

This quality is evident right from the opening pages of the Orby catalogue with no shortage of siblings to Group 1 winners scheduled to go through the ring across the two days.  Aisling Crowe takes an in-depth look at their pedigrees.

Lot 4 is a colt by Group 1 winner Zoffany out of the Haafhd mare Sarawati, which makes the March-born yearling a full brother to Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club winner Ventura Storm.  His older full-brother has performed at the top level in both hemispheres, winning the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and being placed in the Group 1 St Leger, Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (second to Winx) and the Group 1 Australian Cup.  Consigned by Moyfinn Stud, their dam is a half-sister to the dam of this year’s leading freshman sire Gutaifan and to the second dam of this season’s Group 1 Locking Stakes winner Mustashry.

Dual Derby hero Australia is the sire of Lot 11 offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, a half-brother to the globe-trotting Cazals winner of the Group 1 Spring Classic Ormond Memorial in New Zealand and second in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase, as well as the Group 2 Derby Italiano when he was trained in Europe. Their High Chaparral half-sister Joanna also performed at the highest level in France, earning podium positions in the Prix Maurice de Gheest, Prix Marcel Boussac and Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, and winning four Group contests.

Galileo sired two new Group 1 winners during the recent Irish Champions’ Weekend bringing his total to 82, just two shy of Danehill’s record. Goffs Orby Sale offers the opportunity to purchase full-siblings to four of those Group 1 winners beginning with Lot 127 from Glenvale Stud, a full-sister to Alice Springs, winner of the Falmouth, Sun Chariot and Matron Stakes. She is also a full-sister to the filly who brought €2m at last year’s Orby Sale. It is a rich fillies’ pedigree as second dam Golden Coral is a full-sister to the champion three-year-old filly Golden Opinion and a half-sister to the second dam of Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas and Grade 1 Garden City Stakes winner Samitar, who is the dam of Japanese Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed Danon Chaser, her first runner.

Baroda Stud offers Lot 156, a filly by Dark Angel and a full-sister to Europe’s Champion Three-Year-Old Sprinter of 2017 Dark Angel, winner of the July Cup and Haydock’s Sprint Cup.  She received a further black type boost last week when her unbeaten half-brother Pierre Lapin took the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury.  Their dam Beatrix Potter is a half-sister to another Group 1 winner in Xtension and the pedigree is also that of Group 1 National Stakes second Wathab.

From Barronstown Stud comes Lot 181, a daughter of Showcasing who is a half-sister to Harlem, twice successful in the Group 1 Australian Cup. The filly is from a strong Juddmonte family that contains multiple American Grade 1 winner Ventura as well as Group winners Prove, Trade Fair, Kings Fete, Danefair and Silver Touch.

She is quickly followed by Owenstown Stud’s half-brother to the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Persuasive, who was also placed in the three more Group 1 races. Lot 188 is the only colt in the sale by brilliant sire Dubawi, and is out of the Tuthill family’s Listed winner Choose Me, who has produced five winners with her first five runners including the Listed winner and Group 3-placed Tisbutadream as well as Persuasive.

Airlie Stud present Lot 205 a colt by exciting young sire No Nay Never and a three-parts brother to last season’s Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Skitter Scatter, from the final crop of Scat Daddy. The colt is also a half-brother to US Grade 3 placed filly Data Dependent and is just the fourth foal out of a Street Cry half-sister to Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes winner and sire Intense Focus. It is also the family of Group 1 winners and sires Sholokhov and Soldier Of Fortune.

Barronstown Stud’s Classic draft continues with Lot 213, a full-sister to this year’s Irish Derby hero Sovereign. The filly is out of the Group 2-placed Devoted To You and the second dam Alleged Devotion is the dam of five blacktype winners and a half-sister to another Irish Derby winner Balanchine, who also won the Oaks.

Sure to spark enormous interest and frenzied bidding early on the second day is Lot 262, a filly by Galileo whose 82 individual Group 1 winners include two full sisters to this filly from Ballylinch Stud.  They are last year’s Oaks winner Forever Together and the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile winner Together Forever and their two-year-old full-sister was the most expensive yearling filly sold in the world last year when purchased for €3.2m by Amer Abdulaziz at Goffs Orby. These fillies are also half-sisters to Group 1 Prix Jean Prat winner Lord Shanakill out of a Nureyev half-sister to Grade 1 Yellow Ribbon Handicap Spanish Fern, who is also the granddam of Grade 1 winner and sire Heatseeker.

Ridge Manor Stud’s filly from the first crop of Group 2 July Stakes and Group 2 Richmond Stakes winner Mehmas illustrates the international success of Orby graduates on the biggest stages. Lot 328 is a half-sister to the three-year-old Dandy Man filly La Pelosa, a Goffs graduate and winner of the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes. La Pelosa is the first foal of her dam, a half-sister to the dams of Group winners and Group 1 placed fillies Bocca Baciata and Topeka.

Tally Ho Stud presents a half-brother to this year’s Irish 2,000 Guineas hero Phoenix Of Spain from the first crop of another Irish 2,000 Guineas winner in Awtaad.  Lot 345 is a half-brother to three further blacktype performers and out of a half-sister to the six-times Group winner and sire Special Kaldoun.

From Manister House Stud comes Lot 356 a colt by Zoffany and a half-brother to Middle Park Stakes winner and young sire The Last Lion. The April-born yearling is closely related to Listed winners Russina Rock and Contest and their dam, Mala Mala, was placed in both the Cheveley Park and Moyglare Stakes. Dam of nine winners from nine runners, Mala Mala is a half-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas and Moyglare Stakes winner Tarascon.

Kodiac continues to sire winners at the highest level adding Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup winner Hello Youmzain to a trio that includes Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes and now Group 1 Flying Five Stakes winner Fairyland. He is the sire of Pier House Stud’s colt catalogued as Lot 388 who is a half-brother to Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Elusive Wave, out of a Rainbow Quest half-sister to Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Langs Lash.

Glenvale Stud consigns Lot 454 a colt by first crop sire The Gurkha, winner of the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Sussex Stakes. He is a half-brother to Mastercraftsman’s Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes winner Off Limits and their second dam Looks Sensational is a half-sister to Grade 1 American Derby and Grade 1 Flamingo Stakes winner and sire Awe Inspiring, who was placed in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
