Guineas Glory For Goffs Orby

It was another Classic winning weekend for Goffs Orby Sale as the Aidan O’Brien trained Mother Earth won the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in tremendous style under Frankie Dettori for owners Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor.

Bred by Grenane House, Mother Earth was consigned by Whitehall Stud at the 2019 Orby Sale where she was purchased by MV Magnier for €150,000.  A daughter of Zoffany, she is out of Many Colours who was sold by Godolphin at Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale 2016 to Horse France.  The dam of runner-up Saffron Beach, Falling Petals, was also part of the same Godolphin draft of mares at Goffs in 2016 when she sold to China Horse Club.

There were also several Goffs connections in Saturday’s QIPCO 2000 Guineas.  Jim Bolger’s winner Poetic Flare, entered but withdrawn from the Orby Sale in 2019, is by Dawn Approach out of Maria Lee who was sold by Redmondstown Stud to Cormac McCormack at Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale in 2018.  Orby graduate and Group 1 winning two-year-old Lucky Vega ran a brilliant race to finish third in the tightest of finishes.

Orby, Sportsman’s and November graduates recorded several other international black type wins over the weekend.

The Chad Brown-trained Blowout won the Grade 2 Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes, the opening race on Kentucky Derby day at Churchill Downs, for owner Peter Brant who last month also enjoyed Grade 1 success with Orby purchase Raging Bull.  Blowout was sold at Goffs November Foal Sale as part of the Wildenstein Dispersal by The Castlebridge Consignment to Whitebirch.

In Cologne on Sunday, Sportsman’s Sale graduate Belcarra won the Group 3 Schwarzgold Rennen Cologne for Markus Klug.

Yesterday's racing at the Curragh saw a trio of Stakes winning Orby graduates, including the Aidan O’Brien trained Broome in the Group 2 Coolmore Sottsass Irish EBF Mooresbridge Stakes, No Speak Alexander in the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Circus Maximus Irish EBF Athasi Stakes for Jessica Harrington, and the Jim Bolger trained Lunar Space in the Listed Dick McCormick Irish EBF Tetrarch Stakes.
