Mehmas Colt Sets Record Opening Day Price At Goffs November Foal Sale

The best was kept until last on Day 1 of Goffs November Foal Sale as Vinesgrove Stud’s Mehmas colt (Lot 245 - pictured), the final lot of the opening session, sold to Tally Ho Stud for €140,000 and in doing so set a new record price for the first day of the November Sale.

A daughter of Starspangledbanner from Airlie Stud (Lot 125) was the next highest priced foal on what was a strong day’s trade when the filly, who is out of a half-sister to Group 1 Critérium International winner Zafisio, was sold for €62,000 to Glenvale Stud.  Ballylinch Stud offered a son of Make Believe out of a half-sister to another Group 1 winner in Middle Park Stakes scorer Astaire (Lot 157) that was knocked down to Rathmoyle Exports for €60,000.

Gaelic Bloodstock earlier secured another of the day’s standout fillies when going to €52,000 for Lot 89, a Caravaggio filly from The Castlebridge Consignment, while another to make the €52,000 mark was a son of Ten Sovereigns out of a daughter of multiple Stakes winning mare Danehill Music (Lot 119) consigned by Arglo House Stud and bought by FC Bloodstock.

Two consecutive early highlights saw Lot 40, Noralla Stud Farm’s Starspangledbanner filly and the first foal out of a half-sister to Grade 1 Breeders Cup Sprint and Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile winner Obviously, sell to Stauffenberg Bloodstock for €45,000.   Lot 41, a filly from the first crop of four-time Group 1 winner Waldgeist and a sister to a Stakes placed filly, fetched €48,000 when sold by Knockainey Stud to Ballylinch Stud.
