The Real Whacker lit up the second day of Cheltenham with victory in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. The Patrick Neville trained son of Mahler was twice sold at Goffs, firstly as a foal and then at the Goffs Arkle Sale, formerly the Land Rover Sale. It was a third Grade 1 success so far at the Festival for Goffs following the star turns of Constitution Hill and Honeysuckle on an unforgettable Day 1. Bred by Mrs B Keane, The Real Whacker took his first turn in the Goffs sale ring during the 2016 December National Hunt Sale where he was sold by Hack House to P Bloodstock for €12,000. He returned to Goffs for the 2019 Land Rover Sale where his trainer bought him from Abbey Stables for €21,000. Owners David Mann, Bex Dennis, Alan Duffus and Patrick Neville have enjoyed a fairytale season with The Real Whacker, who is now unbeaten in his three chase starts at Cheltenham including last time out in the Grade 2 Dipper Novice Chase. Speaking after the race, the winning trainer was thinking of a golden future for his first Cheltenham winner: “If we can keep him in one piece, we will come back here next year for the Gold Cup. I was toying with the Gold Cup this year, but we probably made the right decision for the horse because he had only run six times before today.” Next National Hunt Sales: Aintree Sale 13 April 2023 Punchestown Sale 27 April 2023 Doncaster Spring Sale 22 - 25 May 2023 Goffs Arkle Sale in partnership with Defender 13 - 15 June 2023
